Training for an Ironman could seem quite repetitive… lots of swimming, cycling and running, you could imagine it getting quite boring.

To help mix things up I have decided to enrol on a few different types of fitness class, firstly to help keep things a little more interesting, but secondly to ensure that I keep my core strong, and my posture correct, all designed to help improve my performance.

The first course I have enrolled on is Stott Pilates. Run by Carmel at The Sports Therapy Room, I can see that there are going to be big benefits just from my initial assessment session. If you take a look at the images below, you can see after just a few simple principles have been applied, my posture is much improved…

before  After

On the left is my before, and the right is my much improved after. If I can achieve that in 45 minutes, I am looking forward to the results I can achieve to help my posture and my core in the weeks and months to come.

The second class I have signed up to is designed to help burn fat, tone muscle and improve general all round fitness. Run by Sandra, her insanity class is a fun-filled hour of high impact moves that gets the heart pumping and the muscles burning… I have done my first session, and now have found muscles I probably have not used since my youth… and now ache a lot! Still, in the weeks to come I am looking forward to seeing a general improvement in my around fitness, that my more specific activities will build upon.

So, that’s what I am doing at the moment to keep my training a little more exciting – if you fancy joining me it would be great to have the support to keep pushing me on, and improve on my journey to complete Ironman Lanzarote in 2017…
